About
This ‘quote’ was the original blurb on the site. Sitting here in June 2009, it’s hard to believe I wrote it in Sept 2007 and I’m in not in a much better physical shape than I was then! Had I been stong enough to follow the diet and exercise plan I’d now have regained my hoped for fitness and activity levels, however the addiction cught me again and I put on virtually the entire 40 kilos I’d worked so hard to lose.
However, since I wrote thus original opening paragraph things *have* progressed, I’ve taken drastic action and both the times and my physical condition are changing…
So here I am… a fat man without a bike.
For most of my life I’ve been called overweight, fatty, lardlad, bunter and a thousand other things.
The time has come for me to change. I’m nearly 60 years old, 157 kilos in weight and not particularly mobile.
This is my last chance and I’m writing the blog to try to help motivate me to reach my target and maybe to help anyone else feeling they need to change their lives too!
Soon I’ll have a few photos in here… a before… an after… and if this time I *do* lose the weight… there’ll be another after, after that!!

Ok currently I still can’t ride a bike! Also I’m now in my 62nd year and *still* far too heavy! However in what perhaps might be seen as an act of desperation I’ve cashed in all my options and gone for the big gamble… i.e. I had a gastric band fitted.
It wasn’t without risks and side effect, and oerhaps because of my age I’ve had a more post-operative problems initially than most people experience but even so I still feel pretty positive about the procedure.
I had to face the simple fact that despite my best efforts, two years on from opening the blog, my weight was still 150 kilos. This being the case I figured going into surgery was probably my final chance. So far it’s all working well. The restrictions on my food intake coupled with the low carb diet has seen my weight drop to 134 kilos. If nothing else it’s a start.
Of course I’m very lucky in that I have the support of a very loving wife who is doing *her* level best to make this work as well. My kids are doing their part as well so there is now a real family effort to bring me back to some sort of healthy condition.
That’s me… that’s where I am… if you’ve any questions… let me know!
In the meantime I have a path ahead of me that I’m no longer going to find it easy to stray from. There’s a goal ahead of me and I’m moving ahead.
